What is Sugaring?

Sugaring is the oldest form of hair removal, made from sugar, lemon juice and water! It dates back to over 1900 BC, it is speculated that the first sugaring compound was made from honey. Egyptian hieroglyphics describe girls serving the Pharaoh, who were expected to remove their hair. In the Turkish Empire, it was an important part of court life, to remove body hair which was also considered an art. This tradition has bee handed down trough generations in the Middle East, Egypt and more. Today families cook up old family recipes and perform cold and strip sugaring.

It's less painful than waxing, sugar contains lemon juice and glycolic acid which lubricates then softens follicle. It then removes hair in it's natural direction of growth which also reduces pain.

Will not break the hair. Sugar seeps don in the follicle, softens and wraps itself around the base of the hair removing the hair completely.

How to Prepare for Your Sugaring Service
​

Allergies, Medications, Supplements - Disclose all allergies prior to service during intake. If you are taking any medications including over the counter pain killer like (Advil or Tylenol) you can have adverse reactions to sugaring thinning of the skin, dehydration and bruising. Supplements like vitamin C can thin your blood increasing chances of bruising.

Topical Exfoliates - Stop use of Retin A, Retinol, Retinoids, AHAs, BHAs, Enzymes, Fruit Acids, Acids, Peels, 7 days prior to service, after acclimation period some sugaring can be done without a break, ask doctor for approval. Faces are particularly susceptible to scabbing or lifting if topical exfoliants have been used right before hair removal.

Hair Growth - The hair must be at least 1/4th of an inch long or have 1-3 weeks outgrowth to be removed successfully.

Patch Test - Particularly for a face sugaring, you do a 24 hr patch test on a small area to see how your skin reacts.

Scrub or Soak - Scrub with an oil free scrub, we recommend our Deck Scrub Original or Sensitive, Dry Brush, or Buff Stuff, 2-4 times a week. Alternatively you may take a soak, 20 minute baths to exfoliate the entire body, do not use oils in bath right before the appointment.

Freshly Showered - Come to your appointment right after your shower, clean of ALL oils, creams and lotions. Use a recommended product in the shower to prepare the skin. Cleanse with SeBrazil Cleansing Body Bar and SeBrazil Personal Cleansing Bar. Some scrubs of soaps may leave unwanted residue.

No Sun Bathing - No sun bathing, tanning booths, or spray tanning, 72 hours prior to appointment. We recommend spray tanning 48-72 hrs after sugaring.

Loose Clothes - Bring a clean set of loose clothes to wear after your service. Tight or sweaty clothes will cause ingrowns and breakouts.

Sugaring Aftercare

Clothing wear loose clean clothing especially for Brazilians. Friction, sweat or heat will create ingrowns, bumps, redness and irritation. Avoid Dirty clothes, tight clothes, dirty undies, skinny jeans, leggings or stockings. Try wearing clean loose fitting pants, skirts, shirts, and no underwear after a Brazilian.

Be Gentle the first 24-48 hours you will treat your skin differently, it needs protection and rest. the skin is considered irritated, until the tender feeling subsides.

Protecting The Skin sugared areas need protection for 24-48 hrs. You may see redness similar to a light sunburn, red speckling where the hair root was removed, and sometimes hives. The skin feels more tender than usual to the touch. If you have been sugared for a long time or have remarkable skin recovery time, it may only take 6-12 hrs.

24-48 HR Dont's - No Hot Showers, Baths, Hot Tubs, Pools, Ocean, Sweat, Sweaty Workouts, Sun Exposure, Active/Un-Approved Products.

Always Avoid fragrance/parfum, scented lotions, heavy essential oils and perfumes, can cause ingrowns if used at any time, ask your professional if in doubt about a product you are using.

Shower not immediately, wait 6-12 hours at least, if you get sweaty rinse immediately with cool water no soap, use approved soaps only, After 12-24 hours take a luke warm shower using SeBrazil Cleansing Body Bar and SeBrazil Personal Cleansing Bar. Avoid hot showers/baths, any soap with fragrance/parfum, harsh soap, scrubs will all cause side effects like: hives, redness, pustules, breakouts & ingrowns. Do not over stimulate the skin let it recover.

Hydrate after your first shower apply approved moisturizer and bump reducer. We recommend: Deck Polish, Wonder Whip and Ouch Balm

Exfoliate 48-72 hours after hair removal, prevent the buildup of dead skin cells, which can cause ingrowns. We recommend using A Dry Brush, Buff Stuff, Deck Scrub Original or Sensitive.

Hydrate & Protect - apply your hydration/bump prevention every day. We recommend Deck Polish or Wonder Whip. During the day wear a sunscreen on top of your hydration step.

Underwear/Under Garments spandex or synthetic fabrics cause a reaction on many skins, creating redness, itching, sores or ingrowns, Choose organic cotton, bamboo, hemp or other natural choices for undergarments or in high friction areas to avoid side effects.
